  1. Interview with The Fores guitarist Liam Hopkins

    Liam, The Fores

Currently collaborating with Horus Music, alternative-rock ’n’ roll band The Fores are working hard towards their upcoming presentation at Midem festival in February. The event located in Cannes, France will hopefully open a lot of doors for The Fores and is something guitarist and founding member Liam Hopkins is very excited about. He says, ‘It’s a pretty big deal and we’re enthusiastic. We’re just trying to provide Horus with everything they need for Midem. We’re recording some new songs at the moment so we can put a CD together and send it out there.’

With all the possibilities Midem offers up-and-coming bands, it’s no wonder the band will be pulling out all the stops for it. In the eyes of Liam, the future is bright, ‘we see ourselves becoming a successful band you know, hitting the charts eventually and a band who can do some good live gigs. The sky’s the limit is what we’re aiming for basically.’

Although in this business, he is very much aware of the odds being against many new bands, ‘it’s all about sort of climbing the ladder as I say. But with success you know it’s rare, but it does happen. We all kind of knew it was a case of building it up which is what we’re doing. The thing is we all sort of have fun with it anyway, there’s a great spirit amongst the band as well. We’re a bunch of mates so it’s all good. You’re not expecting to walk into all the best venues and stuff, you have to be patient.’

The band themselves are influenced by artists from The Rolling Stones and Coldplay, to Oasis, The Verve and Kasabian. To emulate even a quarter of those bands’ success would be an achievement for The Fores in itself. Liam says, ‘everyone’s got the same attitude, we’re just gunning for it and it’s what we want to do.’ It’s an approach that’s definitely helped them out so far. Highlights of the past year include a performance at The National Reality TV Awards in London, performing to a star-studded crowd from shows such as The X Factor, The Voice and The Only Way Is Essex. Also on The Fores’ list of credentials is an award for Best Newcomers from The Independent International Download Awards for their single ‘Let Go!’ ‘We’d like to have that sort of thing more often’, Liam beams.

It’s seriously impressive and the people from Horus can’t wait to show them off at Midem. They said, ‘we’re really happy to be representing The Fores at Midem 2014. They’re a really interesting band and I believe their music has great potential. I look forward to working with them on this as well as on future projects.’

Obviously grateful of their experience so far with Horus, Liam has nothing but thanks for them. Looking ahead Liam ponders, ‘we’re kind hoping even beyond Midem that we’ll keep in touch and just helping us further. So it’s brilliant, it’s really cool. We’re really grateful that they took an interest in us.’ Why wouldn’t you be struck by The Fores anyway? With their undeniably appealing rock’n’roll edge, they’re heading for the top.

What’s really the trick to keeping this ball rolling though? Liam says The Fores ‘don’t get put down by anything because life’s too short. You only live once, that kind of thing, so go for it. I think probably that’s the best piece of advice. Just trust your ear and your instinct.’
