History of Horus Music

How Horus Music Started

Horus Music was incorporated in August 2006 and was founded by Nick Dunn in the city of Birmingham, UK.  The company initially concentrated on music management but it quickly became apparent that it would be good move to have our own label.  The way artists get label attention has changed over the years and in today’s climate you need to do a lot of the legwork yourself.  The very first release by Horus Music was a single entitled ‘Turn on the Sky’ by Glasgow rockers ‘Latonic’ which charted at number 20 in the Official Chart Company Indie Charts.

Music Distribution

From there, we realised that Music distribution was clearly an area controlled by a few companies and it seemed that you could easily lose money if you weren’t careful. We saw that we could do better, and set out to obtain only direct contracts with each of our partners, not to rely on third parties for any digital music, and make sure physical distribution was done in the most efficient way possible.

These principals are still close to the heart of the company today and we go further to make sure all the income is passed back to the artists at the quickest opportunity and with the utmost transparency.

Our history and industry experience means we know exactly what needs doing at every stage of the process from recording to distribution and are sympathetic to the needs of our clients; we’re committed to going the extra mile to help you.

Music Publishing and Sync

Our connections around the world allow us to offer music publishing and synchronisation opportunities to the likes of Walt Disney, Universal, 20th Century Fox and many more. We are also able to assist you further with Google YouTube Content ID for the protection of your music, as well as collecting your mechanical royalties from societies such as PRS For Music, Sound Exchange, GVL and more.

Music Marketing and Promotion

One of the biggest obstacles we see artists facing is how to get more attention for their releases. We realised that marketing and promotion was a major obstacle and many traditional music promotion services were vastly expensive, in some cases artists were even unsure what they were getting for their money. We took the time to build direct relationships with a wide variety of relevant contacts so that we were able to provide a dedicated hands-on and transparent marketing service for our clients.

We offer promotional and digital marketing possibilities through our dedicated in-house digital marketing team. Through our campaigns we can help you gain online features, reviews and interviews in various taste-maker blogs, music publications, trade magazines and fanzines etc. with the aim to help each of our clients develop a positive reputation and increase visibility.

Using our methods and contacts, we are able to create buzz around the artists that we work with. Furthermore, as a result of our direct deals and good relationships with stores such as iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, VEVO etc. we know what they are looking for when it comes to in-store promotions and as such we are able to use this knowledge during our marketing campaigns - however this is done on a case-by-case basis.
