Grace was born in Italy, on the exotic island of Elba. The youngest in a family of four, she first showed her love for the arts early on and by the age of 5 was performing Antonio Carlos Jobim’s songs and Beatles’ numbers with her eldest brother for her family.
Always interested in movement, Grace had a passion for gymnastics and went on to excel at a national level. In her teens she learnt the piano and began writing her first songs. To develop her voice she took lessons from a German soprano opera singer who helped her develop her own distinctive vocal style. After completing her studies in Literature, Latin and ancient Greek, Grace went to Rome, having won a place at the Academy of Drama and Contemporary Dance. During her 3-year course she started performing live with a pianist singing Gershwin, Porter and classic old Jazz numbers before taking the lead vocals for a Jazz and funk band. She also acted in two theatre productions: Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and T. Williams’ “A streetcar named desire”
Upon graduation, Grace stayed in Rome, joined a circle of Rock musicians and taught herself guitar. A series of new exciting collaborations, both live and in the studio lead her to write and publish her first album. Inspired by the British music scene Grace moved to London to form a band. To meet like-minded musicians she worked at Out On The Floor Record store in Camden, and then she became a licensed busker on the London Underground. Through an advert she placed she met Dan Beaulaurier – a singer, guitarist, composer from California and an exceptional musical partnership was born. They worked on the music and dance for “Salome” O.Wilde, at Theatro Technis in London. They formed Grace Solero, gigging acoustically at first before adding bass and drums to complete their raw, passionate, edgy rock sound.
A UK mini-tour gave the band credible recognition and a loyal following and after being spotted by Ace, the guitarist from Skunk Anansie, the band were invited to perform with him on one of his many radio shows. Punk pioneers The Vibrators’ front man and founder Knox described them as “A very good rock band, fronted by Grace with her great world-class voice!”. He also fell under the Grace Solero spell and went on to record several tracks together with her.
Back once again in the UK Grace Solero will also make an almighty wave on English shores as they prepare to convert unsuspecting gig goers to bona fide fans up and down the country. Raucous riffs, bouncing baselines, and top tunes…. this is music from the source. New Moon is Grace Solero’s debut album, and will be released on 26th October, preceded a week before by the single “Apartheid”.
