Below is a collection of old press articals that are currently online about some of the work we have been doing at Horus Music.

Horus Music in Japan 2009 and 2010:

Horus Music in both 2009 and 2010 has visited Tokyo with the aim of furthering our business relationships with colleagues in Japan.  The trip was organised with the UKTI and BPI.  Until our visit to Japan we didn’t know too much about the music industry in Japan and we were under the impression ‘Western’ music was very popular in Japan.  However once in Japan and being privileged to speak to a lot of great people there and review the statistics as well as visit the many and wonderful record shops you quickly find out that ‘Western’ music only counts as a small percentage.  We love Japan and have made some really great friends there and many of them are interested in developing non Japanese artists, but the path is not easy and there is a lot of work to be done.

In 2010 ‘Western’ music only accounted for 18% of the sales of music in Japan, so competition is hard.  Also, if you’re an unknown artist with no press back home, why would a Japanese company invest money in you not only in terms of marketing, and producing some very special Japan only recordings, but in terms of expense in flying you out there and looking after you?  Yes companies will do it, but sales are shrinking, so you have to ensure you have some very special music in the first place, but just as important, you need to ensure you have a lot of interest back home, because if you cannot get any interest in your music back home then its highly likely  you won’t get any interest in another country, espeically in one where you may not speak the local language, and many people do not speak English.  Do contact us if you are interested in knowing more as we can help you begin the process of overcomming many of the problems of getting in to Japan, help you build sales history and explore possible deal opportunities.  None of this is possible or easy if you don’t have the right contacts in Japan or are not actively visiting.
