A new festival is taking over Leicester and it’s ready to blow everyone away. This new festival goes by the name TDM (which stands for Truly Diverse Music) and it’s allows you to be introduced to world music and to celebrate it all at once.

The festival is taking place inside the Cultural Quarter in Leicester from 26th-28th of May 2017. The first set of tickets are going on sale on Friday 3rd March 2017.

    History

The festival is a great way to hear new music and celebrate something that is Leicester born and bred. The origins of the festival stem from when the TDM coordinator was studying at the De Montfort University and put together a world music event with fellow students, which had the name Tour De Music (TDM). This inspired the coordinator to keep doing this after graduation.

TDM Festival, is powered by Horus Music.

Tickets will be released on Friday 3rd March for 5 of the festival events, to be held across 3 venues. 4 of the events will be hosted by The Exchange and Manhattan34 who will run events back to back across Saturday and Sunday. The 5th event that is hosted by The Peepul Centre, who will close the festival with an India focused event. This is to celebrate the 70th year of independence for India.

More venues and events will be added at a later date, along with line-up announcements through the month of March.

    PRS and PPL Leicester move

Earlier this week it was announced that Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) and PRS for Music will be moving their national headquarters from London to Leicester city centre.

Their new joint venture will begin around July 2017 and will be based in Mercury Place.

Here at Horus Music we are very excited about this move to join us in Leicester. This has been our home for almost 10 years now and amongst the vibrant music that is played here we enjoy the Midland Mainline service meaning it takes us less than an hour to get into London city centre; less time than many those that are based around London itself.

We have been partners with both PRS for Music and PPL for many years, and we have seen the benefits that their service provides to our many independent artists and record label clients, which includes the licensing of musical composition and lyrics on behalf of songwriters, composers and publishers as well as the licensing of recorded music for record companies and performers which is played in public or in digital media.

CEO and Managing Director of Horus Music, Nick Dunn, adds: We’re very happy to see that more and more companies are realising that there are opportunities for business, especially in the music industry, that are available outside of London and have the additional benefit of being both financially and environmentally friendly. We welcome PPL and PRS for Music to such a diverse and growing city.”

Everyone at Horus Music looks forward to many more years of a successful partnership with both of these companies and hope that our relationship with grow even further as we work together in the city of Leicester to help the musicians, songwriters and record labels of Leicestershire and beyond.

  3. Looking back on our 10 year history!

horus music turns 10Horus Music is 10 years old this year, and what better way to celebrate than to look back on what we have been up to over the 12 months. In addition to opening an office in India, we have attended several industry events and welcomed many new faces to the team.

The biggest and most exciting event of the past year has been the opening of our new office in India! Setting up shop in Mumbai, we can now bring our expertise in music distribution and other services to Indian artists while retaining a local feel. The new members of our Indian team came to our Leicester office to visit in early June and it was a great opportunity to learn more about Indian music and culture for the rest of the team.

In addition to our Indian venture, we have kept ourselves busy in the UK too. This year Horus Music were sponsors of the Cheltenham Jazz Festival’s Free Stage, where we helped to bring free jazz music to over 14,000 people over the course of the weekend. The event was a huge success and showcased some great up and coming jazz artists as well as established acts. Among some of these acts were Jamie Cullum, Corinne Bailey Rae and Beverly Knight. Beverly previously distributed music through our service in 2015. Horus Music also was a sponsor of this years Midem conference in Cannes. As the worlds biggest music industry conference, we have been attending Midem ever since the company began and have some great relationships with other attendees and organisers of the event. Being a sponsor was a great way to celebrate our 10th year as a company as well as a decade of attending Midem, which has always been a rewarding event for us and continues to be.

In other industry events we sponsored the Brighton Music Conference, which showcases the latest in dance music technology and DJ equipment. There were also a number of industry talks and panels, one of which we organised ourselves called ‘Downloads, Streaming, Vinyl and Record Labels: Navigating the Next 10 Years’ which was very well received. In May we attended The Great Escape Festival, also in Brighton, and attended various industry talks as well as meeting some great companies and see some up and coming UK artists.

We also had the long awaited visit of our Web Guru’s from Croatia to our Leicester office. It was a great experience to have the full team together and discuss upcoming improvements to our system that you can all expect to see in the near future. It was fun giving our foreign visitors a taste of English culture and food too, in addition to allowing them to meet the new members of our growing team.

As a celebration for our 10th birthday party, we will be inviting plenty of old and new friends, as well as some of our clients to join us in reflecting on the past decade as well as looking forward to the future of Horus Music.

In the mean time take a look at this video that shows some of the milestones from our humble beginnings in Birmingham to where we are now. Here’s to the next 10 years!
